WIN
a FREE package of
4 tickets to Celebrations
Dinner Theatre!
Luck Be A Lady is the Dinner Theatre’s
performance from August 7 – October 10. If you've ever
wondered what it would be like to be front and centre
when the infamous Rat Pack
performed at the Sands
Hotel in Vegas during the late '50's and early '60
here's your chance. Frankie and Dino are the best
of friends and two of the hottest acts in Vegas.
They are also two of the worst poker players in town and
find themselves loaded with gambling debts to their
casino boss and suspected mobster, Hombly Hills Malone.
To top that off, Frankie
falls in love with the mobster's wife. Now they have
only 24 hours to get the girl, win back the money, pay
off their debts and do the 6 shows a night they are
contracted to perform. Its either that or rob the
casino, fake their own death, become showgirls or
perhaps all three. In tradition of the Sinatra Rat
Pack movies of Robin and the 7 Hoods and the original
Ocean's 11, Celebrations'/Jubilations'
Luck Be A Lady takes you back to the glorious,
ring-a-ding-ding, days of Vegas in the 50's and 60's
with the timeless music of Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin,
Sammy Davis Jr. and many other Vegas standards. It was a
time of showgirls, late nights, single malt scotch, good
friends and laughter!
You could be the lucky WINNER
of the FREE ticket
package for four persons just by entering our on-board
contest. From May 9th through to August 30th,
guests aboard the Prairie Dog Central Railway’s
regularly scheduled Events can enter to
WIN this
FREE package that
can be used at the Celebrations
Dinner and Theatre performances of
Luck Be A Lady
between September 5th
and 30th. Prairie Dog

FARMER'S MARKET DAY!
It's an adventure!
Looking for farm-fresh items? Shop at Grosse Isle! Be sure to get your tickets
early and come on
board the Prairie Dog Central vintage train!
Pulled by STEAM locomotive No. 3 (except
on July 11) you'll have time
to visit rural Manitoba as you've never seen it before.
Meet the folks at Grosse Isle -- and see what
they have for sale!
We'll also be
having a photo run-by, too!
"What the heck is a photo run-by?", you ask.
At a location along the
route, the train will stop. Passengers will be
allowed to get off the train and stand to one side under
the watchful eyes of our On Board Staff. The train
will then back away from the crowd -- perhaps a 1/4-mile
or so -- and then come back to the crowd at track
speed! Once the whole train has gone by, it
returns to pick up the passengers who caught the magic
of the run-by on digital and video cameras! For a
sampling of what a photo run-by is all about, click on this
link:
San Diego Steam Special - Photo Runby

When you come, make sure
that you have LOTS of film (or batteries!) and use a
tri-pod for steadiness, too!
With STEAM locomotive No.
3 on July 4 and 5 there will be lots of smoke, the
whistle will be constantly blowing, and the bell will be
ringing!
On
July 11 when Classic Diesel Locomotive 4138 is
operating, you'll hear the whine of the 1,500 HP diesel
engine, the blasts from the air horn, and of course the
bell ringing!

PRAIRIE
DOG CENTRAL RAILWAY DAY! While standing on the Station platform, if you look down
the track you'll see the train coming!
We'll get on board and ride in 1900-era railway
passenger coaches
lovingly restored to look factory fresh. The train
is pulled by a 1957 Classic
Diesel locomotive!
One of almost 4,000 GP9
Diesel
locomotives built
General Motors' Electro-Motive Division in
the United States, and
General Motors Diesel in Canada between
1954
and
1963,
this historical locomotive operates with
1,500 horsepower (1.12 MW).
We'll leave the Station at
11:00 and travel down the line to Grosse Isle.
There we'll stop, get off, and perhaps buy a sandwich,
an ice cream, some popcorn, a coffee, water or soda.
After checking out the items for sale by the local
vendors, be sure to drop in to the fully restored
Station building. Originally from another small
town in Manitoba,
the
Station building has been restored. And beside it
is one of the original homes from the Grosse Isle area!
It's in the process of being completely restored.
And just across the tracks is the Prime Meridian Trail.
A former railway line long abandoned, it is cared for by
the Prime Meridian Trail Association. All too
soon
we're back on board for our return to the Inkster Jct.
Station.

On our leisurely trip back a no-charge raffle will be held on board and a very lucky
person is going to win a
FREE HO-scale Prairie Dog Central Railway Train! A
working 4-4-0 steam locomotive (not the Classic Diesel)
plus three railway passenger
coaches and the Party Caboose! And another person
will win a
FREE on-board no-charge draw to ride in the Classic Diesel
locomotive, ring the bell and blow the horn as the
locomotive is put away in the Maintenance Shop!
But our trip isn't
over yet! Stay around for some picture taking
moments! There will be a step box placed in front
of our Classic Diesel locomotive 4138 and YOU can use
your camera to take your picture!

LOWER
FORT GARRY DAY!
Sponsored by
Parks Canada, this is a great way to relive
history on board a 1900-vintage train and at the same time
preview another historical part of Manitoba! An early
Hudson's Bay Company post, Lower Fort Garry National
Historic
Site of Canada is also commemorated as the place where Treaty #1
was signed between the Ojibwa and Swampy Cree of Manitoba and
the Crown.
Join us on July 26 as you are greeted at the
Station and joined on board the train by costumed interpreters
who will take you back to the mid-1800s. They each assume
the role of someone who lived in the Red River Settlement in the
1850s and are able to discuss any aspect of Red River history in
character. This means that you are able
to speak with someone
"living" in the mid-19th century!
Play some trivia games on board and
on the way back to the Station one lucky passenger will
go home with a FREE pair of
DVDs!

FAMILY FUN PICNIC!
Come out for an old-fashioned picnic ... the
food's on us! Yes, you read that
correctly -- we're having a picnic and you're invited to
attend!
We'll leave the Station at 11:00 pulled by STEAM locomotive No. 3
and travel non-stop to Warren. There, your picnic
lunch will be ready for you to enjoy in the gorgeous
Warren &
District
Lions Club Park!

A huge grassed area is there
for setting up your picnic cloth.
We provide the
food and the beverages AND
the dessert!
All you have to do is come
and enjoy the day! Start with a grilled
frankfurter wrapped in a bun that
is
fresh-baked at the quaint little country store in Warren
-- closest you can get to home made! Add some
Heinz ketchup, mustard and relish -- none of that "no
name" stuff with this picnic!
Heck -- go for the gusto and
add on freshly chopped onions and sauerkraut, too!

Ask for YOUR choice of a
beverage -- Coke, Diet Coke, Sprite, Diet Sprite, 7up,
Pepsi, Diet Pepsi, C-Plus Orange or water ... your
ice-chilled beverage is here! And for the grand
finale, an old-fashioned "dixie" ice cream cup from
Dairy Chef -- yumm!
Plenty of playground items for
the kiddies in the
Warren &
District
Lions Club Park! Be sure to walk over to the Grain
Elevator for an interpretive tour. Warren has one
of the last remaining "Prairie Sentinels" in Manitoba!
All too soon it will be time
to go back home and as the STEAM locomotive huffs and
chuffs its way back to our Station, everyone will be
merrily chatting about the all-inclusive vintage train
ride experiences and the
FREE picnic!
For
everybody's enjoyment there will be the Manitoba
Millennium Band!
The Manitoba
Millennium Band is a group of men and women who are
amateur musicians of all ages, from all walks of life,
and who have various levels of experience and
expertise. They are members of a number of established
Manitoba community bands including the Westwood
Community Concert Band, Northwinds Community Band,
Assiniboia Concert Band, Blaskapelle, the Winnipeg
Rifles, and the Rupertsland Brass Band from Winnipeg;
the Pinawa Community Band; the Dauphin Concert Band and
the Dauphin Jazz Band. They learn and play a variety of
musical styles, and especially enjoy sharing their
talents with the public, and with new and aspiring
musicians, too!

MURDER EXPRESS!
Trouble seems to find Jack Elton; during what he had
hoped would be a relaxing honeymoon train excursion with
his new bride, he is plunged into a murder
investigation. One of his fellow travelers has been
found dead in a coach washroom on The Last Spike
Special, pulled by STEAM locomotive No. 3, en
route from Inkster Junction via Grosse Isle on its way
to Warren. At first it looks like Oscar Dempster took
his own life. But with the help of another passenger
Jack sets out to prove otherwise.

The clock is ticking
and the miles pass. The perpetrator must be identified
before the train arrives at Warren. Jack will get to
know some of his coach mates more intimately than he
intended, for at least one of them is a deadly
assassin. Based upon the book written by Canadian
Robert Scott and the mystery VIA Rail train from
Vancouver to Calgary, Robert was privileged to have the
late Mordecai Richler as a professor.
Murder Express is his third book for AVALON in
the Jack Elton mystery series. We might even be

TRANS SIBERIAN RAILWAY
DAY!
We're not going to Siberia -- especially in August! But
you
don't want to miss out on this Event! From
Confederation to
the early-1900s, the federal government
began the long process of preparing the "Last Best West"
for large-scale European immigration, and in doing so,
gave the West a Canadian identity. Imagine what it was
like to travel over one hundred years ago on a train
that brought immigrants to Canada. From Pier 21 in
Halifax and after your boat voyage from Russia, Ukraine,
Poland, Latvia and other countries the view of the wide
open Prairies would have seemed like Heaven!
FREE Eastern European
snacks! Musical entertainment at the Station before you
board the train -- and on board, too! One lucky
passenger will go home with a
FREE DVD, too! By
the way, here are some tidbits about the Trans Siberian
Railway. The
Trans-Siberian Railway or Trans-Siberian Railroad
(Транссибирская
магистраль, Транссиб in
Russian, or Transsibirskaya magistral', Transsib)
is a network of
railways
connecting Moscow and
European Russia with
the Russian Far East
provinces, Mongolia,
China and
the
Sea of Japan. It runs
from Moscow to
Vladivostok via
southern Siberia and
was built between 1891 and 1916. At
9,288 kilometers
(5,772 miles), spanning 8 time zones and taking about 7
days to complete its
journey, it is the third-longest
single continuous service in the world. The route was
opened by Tsarevich Nicholas
Alexandrovitch of
Russia after his
eastern journey ended. The Trans-Siberian
Railway is the theme for the 1900 Trans-Siberian Railway
Fabergé egg and the
Railway is longer than the
Great Wall of China.
Train departure is at 11:00 am and we'll be back at the
Station around 2:30 in the afternoon. Food and
refreshments are available at both Grosse Isle and
Warren, or bring your own picnic basket!

FARMER'S MARKET DAY!
It's an adventure!
Looking for farm-fresh items?
Shop at Grosse Isle and Warren! Be sure to get your tickets
early and come on
board the Prairie Dog Central vintage train!
Pulled by STEAM locomotive No. 3 you'll have time
to visit rural Manitoba as you've never seen it before.
Meet the folks at Grosse Isle and Warren -- and see what
they have for sale!

When you come, make sure
that you have LOTS of film (or batteries!) and use a
tri-pod for steadiness, too!

constantly blowing, and the bell will be ringing!

RAIL SAFETY DAY! At our Inkster Jct. Station,
and sponsored by
Operation Lifesaver, the Prairie Dog Central Railway
along with other Winnipeg-area railways and police
agencies will be promoting the important message of
railway safety.
The site is open at no charge to
everybody. Pay only $10 (including GST) for the
many train rides!

The goal is to reduce injuries by
increasing everybody’s understanding that each
individual has a personal responsibility to avoid
mishaps at railway crossings and not to trespass on
railway property. A key message will be that it takes
an average freight train up to a
mile to come to a
complete stop in an emergency.
Come and spend a few hours
-- or spend the day! We'll have our own railway
equipment on display. Diesel locomotive 4138 will
be pulling the trains (there are four trips that day!)
and we'll have our Party Caboose for you to explore!
Go for a ride in our HyRail
truck! A 1-ton pick-up truck that can travel on
the rails!
Visit the Maintenance Shop and
see STEAM locomotive No. 3.
Our volunteers will
explain how a STEAM locomotive works by using coal as
fuel -- with water!

BNSF
is expected to have their Operation Lifesaver Caboose on display!
There will also be a CN locomotive on display,
and CN might have their Operation Lifesaver
Caboose, too!
Rail
Safety Presentations given by CN Police, with videos and
hand out material for children!
Join us for railway
equipment displays and a chance to WIN a
FREE ride on board
our locomotive at the end of day!
The site is open at no charge to
everybody. Pay only $10 (including GST) for the
many train rides!
