There is no better way to celebrate Canada Day than a trip onboard the Prairie Dog Central. Relax in one of our beautiful vintage coaches as we travel through the blooming Prairies making our way to the rural community of Grosse Isle. During the stopover make your way through the newly renovated Heritage Village, indulge in the goodies freshly prepared by the vendors or enjoy the variety of live music on offer. Canada Day is always a celebration, so you must join us for cake back at Inkster Junction Station!

Thursday July 4 – Heritage Village Picnic
Diesel Locomotive

Today we make our way up the line to the Grosse Isle Heritage Village. Visit with friends as you take a leisurely ride aboard the 1900 era beautifully restored coaches. Awaiting our arrival will be freshly prepared sandwiches, creamy Caesar salad, pickles and chips plus a warm or cold drink followed by bite size dessert. Take time to visit the beautifully restored Heritage House, the East Rosser School or take a moment in the Church, then sit back and enjoy the live music by Prairie Dog Central Railway’s favourite, the Audayo Brothers. Come one come all, this weekday picnic is ideal for larger groups and family gatherings. This event sells out so early booking is recommended.

Saturday July 6 – The Heritage Train of Manitoba

This trip is ideal for railroad enthusiasts, those interested in history or for passengers just wanting a relaxing train ride. Join us as our onboard historian talks about Canadian railroading as it was over 100 years ago. Enjoy the beauty of the open prairie landscapes while the Prairie Dog Central's onboard volunteer shares stories of how steam locomotive No. 3 and our vintage passenger coaches played a fundamental role in the development of the Canada we know and love. Sing along as the Audayo Brothers make their way through the coaches performing for your enjoyment. Bring along your home-prepared lunch or indulge in a freshly prepared hotdog or smokie during the stopover. Make sure you leave space for the delicious made-from-scratch home baked pies or a freshly scooped ice cream cone. Take a walk through the cab of No. 3 and stroll through the beautifully restored Heritage House, the East Rosser School and the Grosse Isle United Church. This Event is a firm favourite because it’s slow paced, fun and is an great way to share your day with family and friends.

Sunday July 7 – Great Train Robbery (Cowboys ‘n Gals)

We have heard a rumour that those infuriating horseback robbers are on the loose and are contemplating their next ambush. Remain alert as we make every effort to evade this gang of thieves. We are hoping for an uninterrupted and leisurely trip to Grosse Isle, but we must stay alert and report any suspicious activity. We never know what we may encounter during this fun filled, entertaining and interactive trip. On arrival pick up a freshly prepared hotdog or smokie or enjoy your home prepared lunch, but be sure to stop by for some delicious home baked goodies or an ice cream cone. Take a stroll through the beautifully restored Heritage House, East Rosser School and take a moment in the Grosse Isle United Church. Find your seat and get ready to enjoy some live music performed by the Audayo Brothers.

Saturday July 13 – Family Fun Day

Family Fun Day has fast become a firm passenger favourite! Hop onboard for a day that is going to be a complete sensory overload. There's something for everyone on the PDCR today! The Audayo Brothers will entertain with onboard live music as we make our way to Grosse Isle. There are balloon animals for the kids. Why not stop by the caboose for a tattoo? Visit the volunteers in the Heritage House, East Rosser School and take a moment in the Church. A magic show by Gregoire the Astonisher will wrap up this fun-filled day before we head back to the city. Bring along your own home-packed picnic basket or relish the home baked pies, pastries, hot dogs and smokies freshly prepared for our arrival. Book early so you don’t miss this entertaining and fun packed day.

Sunday July 14 – Sleepy the Clown Comes to Town

Awaiting our arrival in the beautiful community of Grosse Isle is Winnipeg favourite Sleepy the Clown! Pick up a freshly prepared hotdog or smokie and some sweet treats before finding your seat as we prepare for Sleepy’s show. The fun filled performance includes juggling, magic, hilarious clown comedy plus Sleepy himself climbing inside of a balloon! After the show take time to visit the local vendors selling their handicrafts and walk through the beautifully restored Heritage House, East Rosser School and the Grosse Isle United Church.

Saturday July 20 – The Prairie ‘HOG’ Train Robbery

As we quietly creep up the line, we are hoping to throw these pesky robbers off the scent with our later departure time! Enjoy our onboard entertainment as we make our way to the rural community of Grosse Isle, and tap your toes as the Audayo Brothers make their way through the coaches. We are hoping for an uninterrupted ride as we arrive to a delicious supper of Pork in a Bun, salad and light dessert. Take a stroll through the wonderfully restored Heritage Village and appreciate more live music as we wrap up this fun filled and fully interactive trip.

Hosted by Manitoba’s favourite Information Super Station, CJOB, and featuring one of Winnipeg’s favourite radio personalities. Throughout the trip, visit with the radio personality as we travel from Inkster Junction Station to the beautiful community of Grosse Isle. Sing along as the Audayo Brothers make their way through the Coaches performing for your enjoyment. On arrival visit the local vendors displaying their hand-crafted items or treat yourself to the freshly prepared hotdogs, smokies and baked goods on offer. Stroll through the beautifully restored Heritage House, East Rosser School and Grosse Isle United Church. This ride is a fun and interactive trip enjoyed by everyone!

Saturday July 27 – Propellers, Tracks and Wheels

We recommend that you arrive early and have plenty of time to enjoy the model airplanes on display at Inkster Junction Station. Take time to walk around and chat with the enthusiastic volunteers who operate and maintain the model planes. When it’s time to depart, hop onboard for our trip up the line to Grosse Isle. Enjoy the sights and sounds as we make our way through the prairies and kick back and tap your toes to the live onboard music by PDCR favourites the Audayo Brothers. Awaiting our arrival will be a diverse assortment of Corvettes. Take a look around, capture some photographs and speak to the owners about the work involved in maintaining these machines. As we appreciate the slow pace of the stopover, climb through the cab of the Diesel locomotive, pick up a freshly prepared hotdog, smokie or some made-from-scratch baking and take a stroll through the beautifully restored buildings that make up the Heritage Village.

Sunday July 28 – Tales from the Homestead

Join us onboard as we travel to the rural community of Grosse Isle. Sit back and listen as our historian recounts stories of his family’s journey to Manitoba and their farming life throughout the generations. The stopover is rich with activities: Watch as wool blankets are made, take a wagon ride up the trail, build forts with hay bales or browse the farm equipment on display. Bring along your own picnic or indulge in a freshly prepared hotdog or smokie, leaving space for a made from scratch baked treat or ice cream.
